Disaster Strikes! What Should I Do?

Being in the emergency disaster response business, we have been in hundreds of homes and business and have spoken with thousands of people with the same concern.

“When I discovered the damage, I didn’t know what to do or who to call”.

In most cases, the first reaction in an emergency is to file a claim with your insurance company.  I’m here to help you understand why you should not file a claim right away.  Many people are not aware that insurance companies keep track of the number of claims an insured files, in order to calculate the profitability of a policy.  This includes claims that you file that may be denied or even cancelled.  If an insured files too many claims in a certain time frame, the insurance company will often times cancel the policy.  If you have ever found yourself in this situation, you know that it’s very difficult to find an insurance company that will write a new policy for your home or business.  The second thing you always want to consider is your deducible.  Deductibles can very from $500 to 1% of the value of your home. Meaning, if the value of your home is $500,000, your deductible would be $5,000.  The best person to help you understand your insurance policy is to your insurance agent.

So, what should you do?  Simple, call American Restoration Inc.  We will come out to your property, complete a full detailed inspection of the damages at no charge.  Once we have a full understanding of the damages and your insurance policy, we can help you decide whether or not you should file an insurance claim.  Often times, we can mitigate the damages for less than your deductible, saving you from utilizing an insurance claim that may not be necessary.
